My mission is to make communication support more accessible, giving families and professionals tools that are evidence‑based and easy to use.
Hi, I’m Talisa — a mom, a licensed speech‑language pathologist, and a sister to a brother with autism. Some seasons stretch you. Mine gave me two babies, a doctorate, and the courage to build something of my own.
I knew I wanted to be an SLP at nine. My brother got lost in a mall, and I remember thinking, How will he say “Here I am” if he can’t speak? At home, we practiced what I now know was child‑led, play‑based therapy. The next time he wandered too far, he called out, “Here I am.” That moment never left me. We still work together today — job interviews, asking for raises, even first‑date pep talks.
Years later, in 2017, I started a small speech Instagram primarily for my supervising SLPAs and grad students. Then in 2023, a friend saw my passion and said, “You should get your EdD.” I was six months pregnant at the time, but something in me said yes. I applied, was accepted, became a LEAD Scholar, traveled to CPED in San Diego, and presented my dissertation in practice in Hawaii. The program didn’t just give me credentials —it strengthened my leadership skills and helped me see myself as someone who could create change, not just respond to it. Yes, I gave birth one week before classes started and again one week after defending. There’s never a perfect time to follow your passion.
Today, I’m 15 years into the district I love, working as a Lead SLP alongside some of the best in the state (I am not kidding). I learn every day from colleagues, students, and my own children.
With my toddler, I’ve seen the magic of language development up close. People say, “His mom must be an SLP.” True — but I want every parent to have access to the “secrets” I went to school to learn.
Because here’s the real truth: I’m just a mom too. I Google symptoms. I overthink screen time. I wonder if I’m doing enough. I just happen to know what to look for, what to try, and how to trust the process. And now, I want to share that with you. So here I am, in 2026, starting Let's Talk Speech and SLPMomTalk to grow a community of parents and educators aiming to strengthen communication skills.
